Welcome to the 2006 GUIChampionships!

The GUI's is the ultimate Graphical User Interface (GUI) competition. Graphics designers from around the world will be competing in three primary events. It is a way to help support the community of individuals who create alternative graphical user interfaces and also just to have some good old fun!

The 2006 GUIChampionships will cover Stardock's WindowBlinds and IconPackage as well as Desktop WallPapers. The contest will begin on September 12, 2006. That is the day when you can begin to submit as many skins/icons as you would like.

There will be three events (category examples would be "Most usable visual style, Most creative WallPaper, Most creative WallPaper, Best overall icon package") A full list of the award categories can be found here..

The contest begins on September 12th, and submissions will be accepted throughout all categories until Thursday November 2nd. See the contest schedule for dates on all event and category cut-offs.

The winners will be notified by email 1 week after the end of the contest period and will be announced on GUIChampionships.com. Prizes will be awarded in minor's name (if applicable) to a parent or legal guardian, who must sign and return all required documents. Winner will be required to sign an affidavit of eligibility and a publicity/liability release and return them within 14 days of notification; otherwise prize will be forfeited and awarded to an alternate winner. By accepting the prize, winner agrees to the use of his/her name, photo and/or likeness in any promotion/advertising activities related to this contest without further compensation, except where prohibited. By accepting prize, winner agrees to release contest sponsor and its agencies from any and all liability for injuries and/or damages of any kind sustained in connection with the prize.

7. Judging
Judging will consist of a panel of 5 judges. All judges' decisions shall be final and binding on all matters relating to the contest. The judge panel will not include any Stardock employees. However, Brad Wardell and Kris Kwilas will serve as alternate judges in the event that not all primary judges are able to vote in the designated time for a winner.

Prior to final judging, registered users will be able to vote on their favorite submissions for an event. The top ten voted entries for each event will be presented to the panel for judging.

Each medal awarded has a point value assigned to it, which is used to determine the best overall skinner for the competition. The point break-down is as follows:

  • Gold Medal (1st Place) = 5 Points
  • Silver Medal (2nd Place) = 3 Points
  • Bronze Medal (3rd Place) = 2 Points
  • Honorable Mention (4th Place) = 1 Point
In the event of a tie, the winner will be determined by the contest organizers.

The three categories for teams (WB Top Team, IP Top Team, Overall Top Team) are judged and awarded based on the above point system.  As an example, take Team A and Team B.  Team A has Skinner 1, Skinner 2 and Skinner 3.  Team B has Skinner 7, Skinner 8, Skinner 9 and Skinner 10.  In Best Overall WindowBlind, Skinner 1 gets Gold, Skinner 7 gets Silver, Skinner 8 gets Bronze and Skinner 2 gets an Honorable mention.  The score for each team in "WB Top Team" would be:

  • Team A: 6 Points (Gold + Honorable Mention)
  • Team B: 5 Points (Silver + Bronze)

Team A would win for "WB Top Team"

8. Notification & Late Entries
We are not responsible for lost or late entries. If winning contestants do not respond to email notification within 7 days after being awarded, the prize will be awarded to an alternative winner chosen by the jury panel. So make sure your accounts contain valid contact information!

9. Rules Modifications
Stardock reserves the right to modify these rules at its discretion.

10. Cancellation of Events
An event must have at least 10 entries in its category to be considered viable. Non-viable events will be null and void
